POPE SPENDS BUSY DAY VATICAN CITY, Italy, Dec. 21. Ignoring his ailments, Pope Pius granted a series of audiences today after authorities declared he had passed a "good night." The Pontiff first received Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, Papal secretary of state, with whom he conferred for half an hour. Later, after hearing a sermon, the pope granted three private audiences-and then received several alumni of Lombard College in Rome, where he was once a student.
