Letellier to Ship Big String to Crete Track Jean Ferrante, Steel Heels Among Twenty-Five in Stable One of the largest stables scheduled to take part in the Lincoln Fields meeting, opening May 18, is that trained by Frank P. Letellier, New Orleans turfman, whose stable now is campaigning at Churchill Downs. Letellier, a regular on the Chicago circuit for many years, is planning to bring about 25 thoroughbreds to Lincoln Fields, where preparations for the 30-day meeting are well under way. Two prominent members of the stable are Jean Ferrante, which Letellier owns in partnership with Ed Johnstone, and Steel Heels, the property of Junius W. Bell. Jean Ferrante, star three-year-old of the New Orleans season, did not get to the Kentucky Derby, for which he was intended, but he is a colt of much promise and may yet tangle with the better horses of his age before the summer is out. Last week he won an overnight event from a fair band of three-year-olds, and Letellier has not lost faith in the son of Jean Valjean. Steel Heels is remembered in Chicago for his victory last summer in the Stars and Stripes Handicap at Arlington Park, and he probably will be active in the handicap division at Lincoln Fields this spring. Some of the other horses Letellier is planning to bring to Lincoln Fields are Jack Twink, Gounod, McGarvey, Quest-vive, Linger On, Linger while, Southland Miss, American Byrd, Suprine, Ted O., Topic and Amazed. The Letellier stable also is well fortified with two-year-olds. Some of the youngsters in his care are Sun Flower, a recent winner, Merry Mate, Wickie, Linger Along, Review, Country Style and Valdina Fop. With the stable also will come the able reinsman Jimmy George.
