Deny Reconstruction Work On Tanforan Being Held Up SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 13. — Rumors that reconstruction work had been halted at Tanforan through lack of materials and that the meeting, scheduled to start on October 12, may have to be run off at Bay Meadows, were emphatically denied today by Guy Standifer, head of the organization which purchased the property from John W. Marchbank. Standifer stated to a representative of the Daily Racing Form that, while some of the planned improvements on the grandstand had been held up temporarily by request of the civilian production administration ample materials already were on hand to complete the work as designed. None of the other work has been affected, he stated, and it is going ahead on schedule and will be completed well before the date set for tiie reopening. I Reconditioning of the property for racing purposes has expedited, rather than retarded civilian housing, Standifer declared, since the clearing of Navy installations has resulted in the release for home building of some five million feet of lumber in addition to plumbing materials sufficent to equip over 500 homes with piping, bathroom fixtures, etc.
