DAN E. STEWART— Arrived at Arlington Park with the John E. Hughes string. Meeting of Jet Pilot, Preoccupy May Take Place at Arlington Five Juvenile Stakes With 25,000 in Added Money Scheduled for Session ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 13. — Although the Maine Chance Farms precocious Jet Pilot, fresh from a resounding victory over Eternal War in the Tremont Stakes at Aqueduct yesterday, is the toast of eastern fans, and John Marschs shifty Preoccupy is regarded as the fastest youngster to show thus far in the Kentucky-Illinois area, the fact remains that it is much too early in the season to hand out any laurels in the juvenile division. However, within the next six weeks, when Arlington Park offers five stakes for two-year-olds that will have a total added money value of 25,000, a fair line may be obtained on the potential titleholder of the season. The first of the dashes for the younger set will be the Hyde Park Stakes on June 22. This will be followed by the Polly-anna Stakes, designed exclusively for fillies; the Arlington Futurity, the Arlington Lassie Stakes, another filly affair, and the Primer Stakes, which will be restricted to colts and geldings. Of these the Futurity will be the most valuable. Last year, when Dixianas Spy Song stepped high, wide and handsome to score in the race, the colt earned 8,650, while in the previous season, when the brillian Free for All triumphed, first money amounted to 8,528. Calumet Has Large Unit Consequently it goes without saying that most of the trainers with promising youngsters named for the stakes will point for the Futurity. If the race were run tomorrow it would boil down to a hot fight between Jet Pilot and Preoccupy, but what happens between now and when the livery youngsters face the barrier on July 13 may change the complexion entirely. Likely, other fleet freshmen will be found in the cast. Ben Jones, chief trainer of the Calumet Farm, is one horseman who is not conceding anything to anyone. He has one of the finest collections of well-bred juveniles on the grounds here and while none of them have been tested enough to give a line on their prowess, he firmly believes that he will get several high class horses from the lot. Then there is the fine array of blooded youngsters in the stable owned by Frank Frankel, the wealthy Texan who was one of the leading buyers in the yearling market last year. August "Sarge" Swenke has this outfit under his wing, and it is whispered about that the venerable World War I. top kick is mighty high on several of his charges. • Actually there is hardly any limit to the number of two-year-olds quartered here who are believed to be of stakes-winning calibre. Powerful outfits such as Dixiana, C. V. Whitney, Greentree Stable, Coldstream, Mrs. Ada L. Rice, King Ranch and Christiana are usually well represented in the juvenile field and the most promising youngsters will be given opportunity to make the grade here. As the opening nears Monday, the track continues to take on a well-polished appearance. The establishment is a model in structural beauty.
