PATROL PILOT remained within striking distance to the top of the stretch, responded to urging when straightened to forge to the front in the final strides. TO TOWN JAMES, forwardly placed, slipped through on the inside leaving the furlong pole and closed with a determined bid. PILATES DREAM disposed of REX HEROD after a quarter, was under light urging to maintain the lead, then faltered in the final sixteenth. ROCKWOOD DAISY, slow to get going, moved between horses in the drive and closed with good energy. SUN TALK made a determined bid nearing the furlong pole, then weakened. WEAPONS PRIDE closed some ground late. BRODEAR was unable to keep up. REX HEROD tired after a half mile. CZECH LASS, kept within striking distance of the pace while racing on the outside, moved up when straightened in the stretch, assumed a short lead and was hard ridden to hold NELLIE MOWLEE safe. The latter was under light urging to reach the leaders, rallied in the stretch and battled gamely with the winner to the end. VALDINA LEAF steadily increased his position rounding the final turn and closed willingly. ROUGH SHOWER disposed of EXPENDABLE after three furlongs, but was unable to shake off the winner, then held on gamely to the furlong pole and faltered. ARBOR VITA closed fast through the final furlong. J. J. LYNCH was unable to keep up. EXPENDABLE was sent up fast on the inside soon after the beginning, was under pressure to maintain her position, then tired. LOOKS EASY showed nothing. The others were outrun. WESTWOOD BELLE was under light urging to remain with SOULFUL in the first half mile, rallied when put to a drive, fought, off the challenge of BURGOO LADY and was drawing out at the end. BURGOO LADY saved ground while moving into contention, moved abreast of the leader at the furlong pole then faltered in the final seventy yards. SOULFUL held on gamely unaer stout handling when displaced CHANCE S0RD raced very wide on the far turn, kept bearing out to the furlong pole, then closed willingly when straightened. DAVIES SISTER was in a contending position entering the final furlong, but failed to respond to intermittent urging. PATTY KNOT was unable to keep up NAUGHTY VIXEN had no mishap. WISE BRUNETTE raced with the winner for a half, then held on gamely. GEMET was sent up fast from the outside, escaped trouble when RED CORONA stumbled, but was unable to menace. LITTLE SPOOKY saved ground, but was unable to improve position under steady urging. MAC FETCHIT was slow to begin and rallied mildly entering the stretch. MAID OF BRAND went evenly. JANANN W. was devoid of early speed. B-FORTY-EIGHT was forced to pull up sharply when RED CORONA stumbled and never recovered. RED CORONA was moving up fast on the outside nearing the far turn, when she stumbled, forcing rider to take up sharply, then was not persevered with in the final stages. FLAG DRILL was sent up between horses in the first quarter to wrest the lead from BIG BROTHER, drew clear and won with speed in reserve. MEL CAVANO was prominently placed from the beginning, rallied mild|y entering the stretch, then held on gamely to the end. CHEVALIER improved his position steadily under intermittent pressure. BIG BROTHER displayed keen early speed from the beginning and held on well when displaced. MERRY DICK was sent up fast on the outside after a half, then raced evenly under light urging. TREE FLY was unable to keep up after a quarter. LIBERATION passed tiring horses. CAPTAIN DAVE retired steadily after breaking alertly. EPINAZA would not extend herself and was not persevered with in the late stages. CHOW broke in front, assumed command rounding the first turn, was taken back off the pace to follow close behind the leaders to the quarter pole, then moved up with a rush to shorten the leaders advantage and was up in time to nip LONE SENTRY at the end. The latter was under a tight hold while setting the pace to the far turn, then was allowed to open a long lead, only to falter in the final seventy yards. Y GUN came through on the inside nearing the furlong pole and finished willingly. AIRY GOER was forwardly placed early, then failed to rally when called upon. C00PERATIVA was unable to keep up. LADYS ORPHAN moved up with a rush after a half mile, then dropped back steadily. OXFORD BLUE was outrun. VALDINA VICAR refused to extend himself under steady urging. DECISION, under a tight hold while improving position to the final quarter, responded to pressure, moved up to run o neven terms with SKY SKIPPER to the sixteenth pole, then drew clear and was under a drive to the end. MISFLYING steadily improved her position in the run down the backstretch, came around horses on the final turn and closed with determination under stout handling. SKY SKIPPER wrested the lead from ASK AUNT ADA after a half mile. then drew clear and held on gamely when challenged by the winner, only to falter in the final sixteenth. FLOUR-TOWN was well placed and had no mishap. DOG TROT raced evenly. ASK AUNT ADA tired in the final quarter DUSKILY trailed throughout. Scratched— 00276 Desert Battle, 106. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES.
