Knapp comes as a profound shock to his associates in the Queens County Jockey Club by whom he was held in affectionate esteem. As president of the club since 1941 he gave tangible expression to an inherited and lifelong interest in maintaining the finest traditions of the American turf and in adopting them in modern racing conditions. Under his leadership the club enjoyed its greatest prosperity.
