Easy Trade in Limit Field of Sprinters Named for Roman Purse at Downs Oval Ott Campaigner Enjoyed Banner Season in 1946; Putitthere Main Rival CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 8. — Mrs. Thelma Otts Easy Trade, quick four-year-old gelded son of Easy Mon and the one-time useful race mare. Bartering Kate, may make his 1947 debut here tomorrow in the six-furlong Roman Purse. First on the Roman "also-eligibles," it is probable that the Ott Star will be fortunate enough to "draw in" the feature and should he go postward he will shoulder top weight of 119 pounds. Easy Trade was an outstanding performer during his three-year-old campaign and won nine major engagements. Reaching peak form during the latter part of the 1946 season, Easy Trade accounted for three straight victories at the Keeneland and Churchill Downs autumn meetings, completing a highly successful season. Easy Trade won the American Flag Purse and the Challedon Purse at the local oval and, previous to those triumphs, he accounted for the Waland Purse at the Lexington track. Fredie Farrell, who rode the Ott gelding in most of the horses starts, will be at the reins tomorrow should Easy Trade start in the Friday headliner. S. I. Crews Putitthere, who disappointed in his last appearance at Churchill Downs, is among the 20 horses entered for the Roman, and Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Perfect Charge, who displayed good form at the recent Keeneland meeting, is a highly rated entrant. James C. Ellis will have Gomel and Burgoolette as his Roman rep- tons, Hand Torch and Koviarose. The last named gelding raced well during his winter campaign at New Orleans and he is reported ready for the Friday feature. In the meantime, at this rambling and spacious South Louisville plant, interest has reached a high level for the 1947 renewal of the 0,000 Bashford Manor Stakes, Saturdays principal offering. Present indications are that a clever field of two-year-old colts and geldings will meet in the five - furlong half - holiday stake. William Veenemans Phar Mon, victor in the Hialeah Juvenile and Lafayette Stakes, is still the choice for the juvenile attraction and he may have a useful running mate in Mrs. Veenemans Tiger Flash, who indicated that he is at top form when he stepped a half mile here this morning in :48% handily. Chief dependence of the Calumet Farm in the Bashford Manor will be Whirl Blast, a fast son of Whirlaway and Lady Peace. Whirl Blast was an impressive victor at Keeneland and his recent resentatives while J. Graham Browns training moves have been such that he hope in the dash is Tidy Sum. Completing must be rated Phar Mons main rival. We the list of probables are Hash Camp. Hope, a Chance Play colt, and Free Amer-Jimpin, Bright Steel, Pleasant Run, Missica, a son of Blenheim H., are other Calu-Tartan, Harvard Square, Papaloi, Plaid-met nominees for the rich two-year-old loch, Saku, Fay Foo, Total Victory, But-fixture.
