Well ridden by Jess Higley, the winner dominated the running and had enough left to return a margin of three-quarters of a length over the favored Jesting Fox from the stable of Willard T. Beezley. Slightly more than a length farther back Credentials was a fast finishing third for Ben Fogelson. The winner was scoring his third success of the year in eight starts and returned 6.20 as he was timed in a fair 1:20% over a fast track. Higley had Alar away in motion and he was soon clear of the others who were headed by Credentials with Valdina Perion right at hand and on the outside. Valdina Perion was able to move into second place at the far turn as Credentials was not asked for his best at this stage and here Jesting Fox also moved into closer contention. Entering the home lane Higley sensed the danger from the late challenge of Jesting Fox and sent his charge out into a two-length advantage, a wise precaution, as Jesting Fox moved into second place and set out to overhaul the leader. The resultant drive saw Jesting Fox inching to the leader, but Alar had been well rated and he turned back the stout challenge under pressure. Crowd of 11,937 Out Credentials responded well when roused to move around the outside in the stretch and closing with, a rush, succeeded in taking third place rather easily as Valdina Perion weakened from his early efforts and was hard ridden to save fourth place. The 11,937 patrons who turned out for the afternoon sport were treated to the novelty of clear weather and a fast track, a rarity in this locale to date. However, by the fifth race the sky has become overcast and there was a threat of rain in the warm air. Showers started following the running of the Brown Wisdom. Vinita Rev, ridden by Fred A. Smith, was easily best of the field of seven three-year-olds that met in the six and a half furlongs fifth race, fashioned for ,000 claim-ers. In charge of the situation from the beginning, the winner was never in danger and he drew out at the end to be five lengths before Lady Rheanelle, who races for J. Thomas. The real race came for place honors as W. F. Mannaghs Cohat finished fast on the outside to be only a nose farther back. Cohat raced in closest attendance on the Continued on Page Three ; I 1 ; ! ; [ ; • • ■ J 1 Alar Outsprints Hawthorne Rivals for Driving Victory Continved from Page One winner from the beginning, but was unable to make any serious inroads into this advantage. The effort to reach Vinita Rev took its toll, however, and Cohat did not have enough reserve energy to turn back the closing rush of Lady Rheanelle. Photo Light, the choice in the race, was ridden by Steve Brooks, who was making his saddle debut astride the representative from the stable of Kurkjian and Dilger. Photo Light was unable to race with the leaders and when he began to move up slightly on the turn he suddenly cracked and Brooks was pulling him up when he fell in the stretch turn, apparently break-5 ing his right front leg. Brooks was unin- jured. It was ironic that Woodview Stable claimed Photo Light from the race for ,000. Photo Light was destroyed by Dr. M. F. Kent, state veterinarian.
