Roy Cudahys Over Night, a four-year-old gelded son of Man ONight and Tweeny, scored an impressive triumph here today in the Joe E. Brown Purse, best offering on an ordinary program. Splendidly ridden by the veteran Al Bodiou, Over Night reached the end of the six-furlong feature a length and one-half before David W. Butlers well regarded Unchallenged, second by four lengths over Randem Farms Peraptera, in the -field of seven starters. Felix J. DeMarys Raydel was eliminated at the start where he stumbled and lost his rider, Melvin Duhon. Fortunately, Duhon was not injured in the mishap. The William H. Bishop stable and jockey Steve Brooks completed a triple here today when Tacoma won the last race under Brooks handling. Previous to Tacomas victory, the Nebraska- reinsman rode Light Reigh and Old Silk, winning members of the Bishop establishment. Over Night, making his first start of the 1947 season, found the muddy track to his advantage and he stepped the three-quarters of the Brown in 1:17 while carrying 114 pounds, two pounds of which was overweight. Overlooked somewhat in the wagering, Overnight was good for 3.60 in the straight pool. Unchallenged made the pace for the major portion of the sprint and he came into the stretch with a good lead, which Over Night wore down to a half length as the two leaders passed the furlong pole. Unchallenged was not seriously threatened for the place award, and he easily defeated Peraptera for that portion of the Brown purse. Peraptera broke very fast, but he failed to stay after flashing early speed and was soundly beaten. Home Flight never was a serious factor, while Plaid-loch was done after going a quarter and Expediter was far back the entire trip. Slightly warmer weather and another "off" racing strip prevailed for the sport at the West Side course and a small crowd of some 6,719 regular patrons witnessed the matinee. The sun broke through occasionally but the track did not improve to any great extent, indicating that the Memorial Day and Saturday programs will be contested over a "slow" to "good" course. Kurkjian and Dilgers Gold Call, ridden by Anthony Skoronski, drove to a length decision in the Harvey, fifth race on the card. Hard ridden during the stretch run of the six and one-half furlongs test, Gold Call closed resolutely enough to wear down C. A. and L. A. Beckers Winnebago, who was second The lead changed several times during the Harvey running; Shasta Man, My Scott, and Winnebago forging to the front before they bowed to Gold Calls game bid. Winnebago held a clear advantage when settled in the stretch after My Scott had led into the final turn and Shasta Man -Tiad shown speed enough to make the pace for the initial three furlongs. -
