Trio Is Ruled Off Turf By Maryland Commission Action Against Carl 0. Potts, His Wife and Groom H. P. Morris BALTIMORE, Md., May 25.— The Maryland Racing Commission today revoked the licenses of Carl O. Potts, trainer, his wife and groom Henry P. Morris and ruled them off for life for using a battery and medicine on a horse at Pimlico on May 12. Jockey J. Franklin Ross was suspended indefinitely because he failed to answer an order to appear at the hearing as witness. Potts admitted having in his possession a battery and giving his wifes Bully an injection on the morning of May 12. The horse was scheduled to start in the first race that day. Pimlico officials found the battery in the receiving barn, suspended Potts and Morris and scratched Bully from the race. Potts pleaded guilty to the charges before the commission, but Morris did not appear. Potts said he gave the horse an injection of adrenal cortex on the advice of an unidentified veterinarian, who allegedly told the trainer it would prevent a nose hem-horrage. Dr. John Herculson, chief Maryland racing chemist, said the medicine is a mixture of hormones and while it is not generally regarded as a stimulant, it is the first case to come to his attention. Potts told the commission he struck the horse with a battery but denied that another battery discovered in the receiving barn was owned by him.
