ALMENOW assumed command before going a furlong, established a clear lead before reaching the stretch, then retained the advantage while under a steady hand ride. CATSMEOW, outrun during the first three-eighths, was sent to the outside for the drive and finished strongly under punishment, but could not reach the winner. AIR SAILOR, a sharp factor throughout, held on determinedly in a good effort. SYNDICATE, away sluggishly, was hustled to reach serious contention, then tired after racing prominently to the last eighth. BRIGHT STEEL failed to stay after showing early speed. COTTON JOE, in close quarters on the upper turn, never seriously threatened. WINDFIELDS began fast, but dropped back immediately after the start. Scratched— 728093 Traveler, 108. CACTUS FOOT, in hand until reaching the last three-eighths, was sent around horses entering the stretch and, responding to punishment, wore down the leaders, then held EMPUJON safe. The latter, far back and outrun to the last quarter, closed with a rush, but could not overtake the winner. OKAMSEL, a keen factor from the beginning, went to the front after five-eighths, established a clear lead, but faltered during the drive. WISE SUN moved up boldly approaching the stretch, then failed to rally under urging. SWEET REWARD was outrun. GOTANOTION made the pace to the upper turn, then gave way. JOES SUN was outrun. AGRARIAN SON could not keep up. BIG AFFAIR, fractious at the post, broke out of the gate and ran a quarter mile before the start. The outriders lifted jockey Cook from the saddle after BIG AFFAIRS bridle broke, caught the horse and, after equipment was repaired, BIG AFFAIR broke well and raced with the leaders for a half mile before tiring. Outriders Ed Smith and Louis Montie probably saved jockey Cook serious injury by their timely actions.
