Superwolf, Good Story Vie Again Pair Waged Nose Finish Last Out Bodens Pal Coupled With Bishops Recent Winner in Deliberator at Washington WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., May 25. — Several days ago William H. Bishops recent acquisition, Superwolf, and Oscar J. Breaults Good Story hooked up in what turned out to be the most exciting test of the meeting. This pair looked each other in the eye at the head of the stretch, located five-sixteenths of a mile from the finish, and from there waged a ding-dong struggle that found the lead changing several times, with the Bishop colorbearer earning the nod in the final stride. In the Deliberator Purse this pair will clash under virtually identical, conditions tomorrow. Both will shoulder the same weight and the distance is a mile and one-eighth. The one big change, however, is that the track will be fast, against a previous heavy course. Others in the field, that should provide for an interesting contest, are Bishops capable Bodens Pal, who will run coupled with Superwolf; » W. M. Peaveys Puddle Jumper, Woolford Farms Approval, Mrs. H. J. Damms Reighs Comet, G. Gerbers Darby Doodit, and I. S. Weiners Santa Fe. If both Superwolf and Bodens Pal are started by the former horse and mule trader from Anna, 111., the entry undoubtedly will be favored in the wagering, but it is likely that the extremely successful horseman will declare one. Haltered for 0,000 Superwolf Already has proven himself a bargain for Bishop, who obtained him via the halter route at Sportsmans Park for 0,000. The six-year-old son of Sweep All— Tootsiecake, by High Time, who at one time sported the silks of the famous Dixiana stable, finished fourth in the Spring Handicap at the Cicero half-miler after he visited his new quarters. Bishops magic touch asserted itself in the following race when he whipped Good Story, Storm King, Showdown, Santa Fe and the former stakes winner, Jack S. L. The latter racer did not perform at all kindly, and on that particular afternoon, did not choose to run, even though he was a 7 to 5 favorite in the wagering. Under existing conditions, there doesnt seem to be any reason why Good Story shouldnt show improvement. He has started only three times this year and has shown progressive improvement in each. His initial outing was at Keeneland, where he was badly beaten by a field of fast sprinters that included Pinebloom, Happy C, Traveler and others. His next start was at Sportsmans Park, where, while running with an ,000 claiming tag, he sped to a rather easy victory. He was moved up considerably against Superwolf and others in his following effort over this course, and there he was beaten a nose after tena-, ciously disputing the issue during the long stretch melee. Reighs Comet in Local Bow Reighs Comet makes his initial outing of the current meeting lauded as a contender. He was regarded highly enough to be a starter in last Saturdays 0,000 Churchill Downs Handicap, a bettingless affair that found the Calumet Farms formidable pair of Free America and Armed finishing one-two. The dark bay son of Reign Count — Ruledays, by Rhodes Scholar, showed good early speed, but simply was outclassed, and tired in the drive. When meeting a similar field to that which he faces in the Deliberator, in his previous outing Reighs Comet bounded home on the chinstrap, beating Pomps Gal, Sgt. Abe, Boat Man, and others at a mile and one-sixteenth. He also won another race in Kentucky against fair-to-middling sprinters. Bodens Pal, has not won a race this year in 11 starts, although he has finished close up on several occasions against formidable opposition. His last effort was in the Spring Handicap at Sportsmans Park when he finished third to Caillou Rouge and Sir White, while defeating Superwolf, who finished fourth. The mile and one-eighth and other general conditions should fit him well and, it may be that this will be the spot for him to resume his familiar winning ways. Last year he was one of the top gleaners in the Bishop stable, taking six victories in 26 starts and 8,225 in purses. Approval is another who certainly is more capable than his recent races attest.
