Expect Olympia, Palestinian To Be Jersey Stakes Rivals Hooper Colt, Colonel Mike And One Hitter Already on Grounds at Garden State GARDEN STATE "PARK, Camden, N. J., May 25. — With three prominent members of the .three-year-old division. already on hand from New York and one more due tomorrow morning for Saturdays 0,00.0 Jersey Stakes, their presence is certain to attract much favorable comment. However, it seems as certain that the presence of the quartet in the mile and a quarter run will reduce the size of the starting field, for many local trainers prefer to await the coming events in which the opposition will be less formidable. The trio here from New York comprises Fred W. Hoopers Withers winner, Olympia; Greentree Stables One Hitter, and Eugene Jacobs Colonel Mike. Isidore Biebers Palestinian worked at Jamaica this morning and will be vanned over to Jersey tomorrow morning. Colonel Mike is scheduled for a prep race this afternoon, following which his owner-trainer will make a final decision as to his Jersey status. Olympia, despite the fact that he was soundly beaten at the ten-f urlong distance in the Kentucky Derby, will likely carry the bulk of the public support. Following the Blue Grass classic, the Helipolis — Miss Dolphin colt was given a brief respite. He came back to competition for the Withers Mile and was a galloping winner. The consensus of opinion seems to be that he just was not himself for the Derby and that the mile and a quarter distance is well within his capabilities. Passed Up Withers Last Week The Hooper colt will have to be running all the way in the Jersey, for Palestinian seems sure to be charging on him through the final straightaway. The same charge landed him third money in the Derby and fell short only by a head of earning him the major award in the Preakness. Trainer Hirsch Jacobs elected to pass up the Withers with Saturdays race in view, which seems a wise move, considering the distance of the two races. One Hitter, while not quite on the level with his more illustrous stablemate, Capot, seems to be improving with his races. He was a starter in the Withers and, while unable to offer Olympia serious contention, turned in a good effort while third. Under the conditions of the Jersey, One Hitter will carry only 111 pounds as compared to Olympia s 126 and Palestinians 114 pounds. Colonel Mike seems the more lightly re- garded of the New York invaders but he could move up considerably with a good effort in todays Millville Purse, which will be his first start since the Wood Memorial. In that Jamaica fixture he was fourth to Olympia, Palestinian and Capot after being forced wide while commencing his rally. Two other Jersey eligibles are Afton Villa Farms Jacks Town and Richard Ormes Great Shuffle, but their chances of competing in the Jersey would appear slim at this writing. Still other local possibilities for the weekend attraction are H. W. Finchers Air Attack, Brookmeade Stables Going Away, Beverley Brouns Magna Charta and Christiana Stables Parliament. Air Attack is a recent development, winning two overnight races at the meeting in come-from-behind fashion.
