MISS YAM assumed command at once, was steadied after drawing clear, was kept out in the better footing, surrendered the lead in the stretch, then was up in the final strides to outfinish BILTRITE. The latter improved position gradually on the outside, drew even with the leaders nearing the furlong pole, then faltered. OSCULORIA came through on the inside to gain a slight advantage in the stretch, but flattened out. DIATRIBE, well up and in close quarters, failed to respond when urged. RISKAIRE had no mishap. BARNACLE weakened under a drive. MISS SUN BEAU showed nothing. SVENGALI was outrun. SO PROVOKED kept in closest attendance of the pace, moved through on the inside to gain a clear lead entering the stretch, then had to be hard ridden to hold HENRY PAYNE saTe. The latter closed with a rush in the last stages. KHORAWYCH rushed boldly on the extreme outside after three furlongs but was unable to menace the leaders. DEVOTEDLY set the pace for a half-mile, only to flatten cut when challenged. CATHIE JEAN made up ground with the final drive. KING WILLOW was bothered slightly on the far turn and showed nothing when clear. PEACE PIPE was unable to keep up. JUAN was outrun. DUBBLELL quit. CAROLINA MISS moved to the leader soon after the start, was taken out in the better footing, gained a clear advantage and had enough left to hold MANUELA safe. The latter moved rapidly after a quarter, erne to the inside for the drive and just missed. VALSIDA broke alertly, stayed with the pace to the final sixteenth, then weakened slightly. HI COMEDIENNE raced evenly. JO-ANN HEATHER had no mishap. REDEAL had speed for three furlongs. The others were never prominent. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. OCTORORA disposed of early opposition, drew clear entering the lane and was hard ridden to hold CAPTAIN BOUDOUR safe. The latter improved position gradually on the extreme outside, engaged the leader-inside the final sixteenth, but was not good enough. U. S. BOUND broke well, was in hand while dropping back, remained along the inside to re-enter contention on the final turn, but failed to rally. LADY CARRIE forced the pace under light urging; tiring in the . final stages. GERHAM was used up forcing the pace. FIRST PEBBLE closed very fast from far off the pace. KNIGHTS CROSS was hustled into the lead before a quarter mile, drew out readily, was kept off the rail, appeared to loaf nearing the furlong marker, then rallied when roused and held SEPTEMBER safe. The latter was allowed to settle into best stride while working way up between horses, then responded when set down. NORWEST finished well under steady urging. GOLDFIELD loomed as a threat by coming through on the inside, then faltered. VENTANA forced the J pace, moved to challenge the leader entering the stretch only to tire and drift wide. LOOKOUT SON broke alertly, was joined by TIME ROLL for a quarter-mile, drew out slightly, then weakened under a late drive. AGRARIAN-U, well up under light restraint, was put to pressure leaving the backstretch, moved gradually on the outside, then appeared to sulk under pressure. DOCKSTADER closed well from off the pace. HAPPY SMILES, showing a liking for the going, assumed command before a quarter-mile, while drawing away from PITTACUS, came to the middle of the track entering the stretch and was in hand to the end. SUN EMBER, a forward factor throughout, rallied mildly in the final quarter but was unable to reach the leader. PITTACUS held on gamely after failing to reach the pace on the far turn.
