Silent Partner Scores At Randall Park Course Speedy Western Racer Rated Nicely in Six-Furlong Event RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, May 25.— The "Western Streak," bald-faced Silent Partner, proved this afternoon that he could be rated to carry his speed over six furlongs as well as the shorter distances at which he gained renown in the Western states, as a champion "quarter horse." The Gill Cattle Co.s speedster was literally "choked" under strong restraint from jockey Anthony Licata, then upon reaching the final sixteenth of the Ashtabula Purse, was shaken up with two lashes from the whip and responded willingly to win going away by a neck over A. E. Harpers Jim Boy-EE. Harold W. Shaffers Flying Raid was three-quarters of a length behind and third, with Hectic Hour fourth in the field of seven. For the second time in his five starts at a recognized course, Silent Partner was not favorite, but was a close second choice to Jim Boy-H., and paid .20. Time for the event over the officially termed "good" racing strip was 1:13%. Not too impressive in itself, but the manner in which the five-year-old Arizona-bred son of Montoso James and Cocollie responded for his final spurt of speed was. This rather cool and cloudy afternoon was pleasing to the estimated gathering of 4,200 in the majority of events, with favorites running true to form. Jockey Licata broke Silent Partner on top leaving the gate, but upon settling into stride reached for "double wraps," allowing Flying Raid to gain a slight advantage on the outside and set the luke-warm pace. Jim Boy-H., was outrun early but moved up fast while circling his field, and quickly went into a length advantage passing the furlong marker, but drifted wide thereafter. Flying Raid held on well, but neither could withstand Silent Partner when asked for speed, with his margin of victory belying the confidence in which his victory was scored.
