Eight Eight N N amed amed for for Belmont: Belmont: Lincoln Lincoln Cards Cards Miss Miss America America Swing Again Choice Of Thirteen Fillies Combs Homebred Opposed by Miss Stephanie, One Rose, Lady Marquest in Sprint WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June 10. — The semi-final week-end program of the Lincoln Fields Racing Associations meeting of 30 days will be offered with the second running of the 0,000 added Miss America Stakes headling an attractive program here tomorrow afternoon. The event is a dash of five furlongs patterned exclusively for juvenile fillies. It was originated by the late Edward J. Fleming last year and immediately it developed into one of the banner features of the meeting and, by popular acclaim from horsemen, has become a fixture. Thirteen classy young lassies have responded to the call for the abbreviated dash and there is a strong possibility that an outstanding youngster will emerge from the contest. Overnight, the favorite for the Miss America looms in Lucas B. Combs sprighty representative, Swing Again, a flashy daughter of Sun Again— Susi Q., by The Porter, who qualified for the engagement in handsome style here last Saturday. Facing several of those scheduled to meet tomorrow, she swept into the lead at the start, established a blistering pace and then held on with grand courage to score by a length. Miss Stephanie Won Last Joseph A. Kroecks Miss Stephanie, a galloping winner by five lengths in her only appearance over this course; G. D. Smiths One Rose, who closed strongly against Swing Again, and Mrs. C. A. McCaw, Jr., and J. R. Johnsons Lady Marquest, who has an imposing record, shape up as the main contenders. Others in the field are Mrs. Albert Sabaths Visional, Shady Brook Farms Kalimera and Danseuse, E. B. Wil-kins Hillbrook Miss, Mrs. E. Brisbanes Eternal Glow, Mrs. W. Resseguets Merry-town, Mrs. Emil. To commemorate the occasion, Miss Bebe Shopp, winner of the Miss America beauty contest of 1948, will present a trophy to the winning owner. Miss Shopp, of Minneapolis, Minn., presently is touring the country and is in Chicago at the present time. Swing Again goes into the stakes with a duo of victories in three starts to her credit. In the Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs, she was away very poorly and was forced to lose considerable ground, and at the finish she was two lengths in back of Aunt Jane Z„ the winner. Those who witnessed the event maintain that she was much the best on that particular occasion, even though she finished fourth. An inkling of what can be expected of her in the Miss America was demonstrated last Saturday when she utilized her keen speed to turn back One Rose, Johnies Bobbie, Tea Deb, Aurora Deb, Rag Doll Star and Birchie. She raced the five furlongs in :58%, the fastest time for the distance of the meeting, and only two-fifths of a second off the track record held jointly by the colts Ky. Colonel, Olympia and OF Skipper. Her smooth action impressed those who witnessed the victory as much as the speedy time. Miss Stephanie, a daughter of Requested — Lads Gal, by Count Gallahad, required a minute flat to get over five furlongs in her debut here, but she won by five lengths and undoubtedly could have gone faster had she been pressed. She was purchased by Kroeck, a Chicago sportsman, for ,300 last year at the Keeneland Sales. Presently he could get many times that figure for the fleet filly, were he to place her on the auction block. One Rose, a ,100 bargain at the yearling sales, impressed many as possibly being Swing Agains superior when they last met. She was away slowly in a very ragged start, but closed much ground. A better break at the gate should produce sharp improvement, it is believed. Lady Marquest, who brought ,450 at the sales, has been showing good speed in her most recent races. She didnt do much early in the winter at the Fair Grounds, but in finishing second to Aunt Jane Z. and beating Swing Again in the Debutante, she earned many admirers. Johnies Bobbie was virtually left at the post in the race won here by Swing Again, but she closed with an impressive rush and probably was going fastest at the finish.
