WENT TO POST-5:31. OFF AT 5:31 EASTERN STANDARD TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. LOW TENSION, a sharp factor from the start, went to the front entering the stretch, gave way momentarily to SANTA ROSEANNA between calls during the drive, then came again and held the latter safe during the late stages. SANTA ROSEANNA, in hand to the final quarter, was sent to the outside for the stretch run and, after reaching the lead between calls, could not hold the winner. SIR MONTE was unable to threaten the leaders when hard ridden through the stretch. AGRARIAN SON, on the outside throughout, failed to respond when set down in the stretch. POLONIUS was outrun. BAR GRENADE gave way after racing well to the stretch. DAY DODGER pulled up sore. PAR THREE was through early. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. Joes Choice, July 4, 1947— 1:43%— 5— 107. ROCHE went to the front at once, established a clear lead and, continuing gamely, won with something left. SWEEP SWINGER, slow to reach his best stride and outrun to the last three-eighths, finished strongly, but could not reach the winner. SANTA CLAUS engaged DR. ROCHE to the last eighth, then faltered. FOURTH DEGREE tired. EMPUJOHN, on the outside all the way, could not reach serious contention. STONE HILL was outrun. ALTUCE, in trouble on the first turn, dropped back and was unable to menace thereafter. ORISKANY tired after racing well to the stretch. JUDGE 0. was through early.
