Almenow Accounts For Detroit Race Defeats Blue Badge Easily For Third Straight Tally; Pinebloom Faltering Third FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 10. — Almenow, P. L. Grissoms consistent and speedy four-year-old gelded son of Menow and Xanthina, romped to his third straight victory of the current Motor City season today in the featured Charlevoix Purse. Confidently ridden by William McKinley Cook, Almenow sped to the end of the six furlongs five lengths before his nearest rival, James Paddocks Blue Badge, second by a length and one-half over Hal Price Headleys well-regarded Pinebloom, third in the field of eight starters. Shouldering 116 pounds, which was the topweight .burden under the allowance conditions of the Charlevoix, Almenow found the fast strip to his advantage and completed his trip in 1:10%, winning with something left. Installed co-favorite with Pinebloom a 7 to 5, the Grissom gelding did not give his backers any cause for anxiety once he had gained command and he stamped himself as one of the better sprinters presently quartered at the local course. Pinebloom forged to the front before going a quarter mile, but Almenow moved right with the Headley colt and, before reaching the stretch, the ultimate victor had gained the lead and entered the home lane with a clear advantage, which he increased in the run to the wire. Pinebloom faltered after his duel with Almenow and Blue Badge, a sharp factor from the outset, then closed willingly enough to save the place award by a good margin. The weary Pinebloom, however, was not under strong pressure to take the minor end of the purse by one length from T. D. Buhls Crack Reward. Dead Heat in Third Race Ideal weather conditions prevailed today in the Detroit area and a crowd of 8,288 witnessed the sport, which was decided on a lightning-fast track. Vixen Rose, Nashville.Tenn., a member of the George Shwab, Jr., stable, and J. O. Hewgleys Alschol raced to a dead heat for top honors in the six-furlong third race in which seven sophomores went to the post. Vixen Rose, hard ridden through the stretch by Tommy Fico, and Alschol, handled by Norman Cartwright, engaged in a brisk battle during the late stages of the sprint, the pair hitting the wire on equal terms. Two and one-half lengths off the lapped leaders, Mrs. Janon Fisher, Jr.s, Piper accounted for the minor award. Run A Risk, favored representatitve of the Shaffer establishment, displayed early speed but failed to stay, and she was a soundly beaten sixth. Jacaranda, racing under the silks of Louis Lee Haggin II., was an easy three-length graduation victor in the five furlong second event, which matched 10 juveniles. Well handled by Manuel N. Gonzalez, Jacaranda was sent to the outside for the stretch run, and after she had disposed of Castanau, drew clear and won with something left. Warner L. Jones, Jr.s, Dis Hash ran second, a length and one-half in advance of Castanau. Sunshine Stables Miss Bob, favorite for the dash, bled badly during the running, and Mrs. C. F. Bowles Check Me In lost her rider, W. M. Cook, after stumbling at the upper turn. Fortunately, Cook was not injured in the mishap.
