Illinois Notes FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, EL, May 21. George R. Martin, one of the most promising apprentice jockeys made his appearance at the local plant and will ride at the current meeting. The lad is from St. Louis and many enthusiasts will undoubtedly be on hand to see if the novice can contain the saddle wizardy that he showed in Ohio this spring. The J. and G. Hejna Stable is on the grounds and trainer E. E. Wilson announced that he would enter Laughing Fox and Leo P. McL. in the St. Louis Handicap Saturday night. Both sportsmen will be on hand to see their charges race. Local fans are interested in the ex-Bing Crosby sprinter that was claimed from the crooner at Oaklawp Park earlier this spring by Howard McKissick. The horse named Old Vic has shown good form so far this year but has yet to reach the winners circle. A newcomer to the official staff this year is the veteran horseman Al Gaal who will be a patrol judge. Gaal can be remembered as the owner and trainer of The Dude conqueror of Assault in the Arlington Classic in 1946. Raymond E. Hopton who serves as placing judge at Sportsmans Park and Hawthorne in Chicago is starting his third year as assistant secretary at the local plant. John C. Daniel, who serves as an official at Hawthorne, and Sportsmans Park, and is assistant racing secretary to Larry Bog-enschutz at New Orleans is on hand and will handle the announcing during both meetings.
