George Walker, Ex-Chase Rider, Gets Delaware Post STANTON, Del., May 21.— George Walkers appointment as custodian of foal certificates was announced today by officials of Delaware Park which opens a 32-day racing season on May 29. He will start work June 1 so as not to Interfere with his present duties at Pimlico where the meeting ends May 30, a two-day conflict with Delaware Park. Walker also is foal certificate custodian at Bowie and Laurel. Walker, a former steeplechase rider, has been paralyzed from the hips downs as a result of a fall over the Laurel steeplechase course in 1944. Walker made his way back to the race track last year and aided by a wheel chair was employed in the stable areas of Bowie and Pimlico. The 44-year-old Walker drives his specially-equipped automobile. He will be aided by Bill Hunt, another former steeplechase rider, in lifting his wheelchair in and out of his car. Hunt will be employed in the Delaware Park mutuel department and wUl reside with Walker during the term of their employment here. Walkers injury was suffered on Thomas T. Motts Chen during the Laurel fall meeting nine year ago. Chen fell heavily during the running of the race and Walker was removed to the hospital with a spinal injury. Mrs. Walker still maintains her government clerical position in Washington. The Walkers reside in Alexandria, Va.
