1,000 Head for Roosevelt Meet NEW YORK, N. Y., May 21.— One thousand horses will be on the Roosevelt Raceway grounds for the tracks 1953 opener Monday night, May 25. At present, 750 are stabled at Roosevelt. An additional 250 will arrive from Yonkers Raceway following the close of the Westchester ovals meeting Saturday night. Most of the horses at Roosevelt have not raced at Yonkers, having only recently arrived from winter training tracks throughout the South, including Orlando, Fla., Aiken, S. C, Myrtle Beach, S. C. and Pinehurst, N. C. Starting Monday night, the trotters and pacers face a months campaign before the Grand Circuits two-week session gets under way on June 22. Then the champions already stabled at Roosevelt will be joined by such name horses as Pronto Don, Dudley Hanover, Prince Jay, Florican, and Yankee Hanover, and others. These top-notch horses will compete in the big stakes taking place in the June 22-July 4 period.
