MISS TEASE alternated in setting and pressing the pace, regained command entering the stretch and gamely held REBEL COAT safe. The latter moved up boldly on the outside leaving the final tum, came fast when set down for the drive and was getting to the winner. BIG CLOWN, sluggish to start, worked his way forward to the stretch, then closed with good energy in a sharp effort. MILANZA, much used early, had little Jeft. D0NFIELD lacked the necessary rally. FIRST BALLOT failed to stay while saving ground next to the rail./ MYSTERIOUS tired. EXTRA GIRL was outrun. Won handily; second and third driving.- ATHABASKA, never far back, took command when ready inside the stretch and briskly drew clear while in hand. LENNY GALE sprinted into a clear lead soon after the start, was unable to withstand the winner during the drive, but easily prevailed over the others. SNOOZIE failed to sufficiently respond when set down for the final test. GALLANT SPEED retired steadily from a rapid start. GOLDEN PRINCE tired. CLUSIUM was outrun. BEAUPRE, rank during the early running, assumed a commanding advantage while fencing cleverly during the run down the backstretch and, though shortening stride through the straightaway, held COVETED safe. The latter, forced to take up slightly when impeded by the winner neafing the fourth fence, recovered readily to race in closest pursuit of the leader to the far turn, bobbled and almost lost his rider at the eleventh jump and was unable to become an endangering factor thereafter. INDIAN FIRE was unable to improve his position when hard ridden through the late stages. SONAR was always outrun. BAVARIA tired. GOOSE BAY never. threatened. LORD MILDMAY stumbled and fell at the eleventh obstacle. DE SAUSSURE bobbled and lost rider at the fifth fence. Scratched— 17666 Gold Tar, 148. Overweight— Lord Mildmay, 2 pounds. LIBERTY LUCK, allowed to settle into best . stride, .came to the outside for the stretch run and, under adept handling, was along in the concluding stride to outgame HALCYON BIRD. The latter engaged DEEP RIVER to the stretch while saving ground next to the rail, then held on determinedly, just missing. DEEP RIVER held sway to the furlong marker under hustling tactics, weakened slightly when placed-to pressure and was unable to cope with the top ones. PRISM failed to make up appreciable ground when the real test came. OBERON lacked early speed. BONE CHINA tired. GOLDEN ARIA was unable to keep up. DIONYSIA and THORIS were outrun. FASHION PAGE, always within striking distance, reached the lead inside the stretch and under brisk urging outfinished HIDDEN SHIP. The latter was sent into closer contention nearing the furlong marker, reached the lead between calls during the stretch run, but faltered when challenged. CHURN moved up boldly entering the stretch, but failed to sufficiently respond when the real test came. TAKE TWO raced evenly. AIR BUNNY held sv/ay to the stretch, but was unable to be sternly persevered with thereafter when her rider lost his irons. BLUE BANNER tired. BOUGET was in close quarters during the early running. CONVERSANT failed to stay. BOLD DUCHESS and BEST SIDE never menaced. BON ZEVIAL quit. AZURE BEAUTY never threatened. BABY SPOT and the others were never prominent. ICARIAN improved his position to reach closer contention nearing the furlong marker, came out for the drive and, after taking command, won going away. BLACK RECORD assumed command immediately after the start, gave way momentarily to DUKE HI entering the stretch, but after regaining the lead, was unable to withstand the winner. A claim of foul against BLACK RECORD by the rider of DUKE HI for alleged interference during the stretch run was not allowed. DUKE HI moved up boldly to replace BLACK RECORD entering the stretch, then tired when punished. LANDSCAPING faltered when the real test came. SENTIMENT raced wide. STRAND had no mishap. PERMAN quit.
