Futurity GOLDEN GATE FIELDS, Albany, Calif., May 25. — One hundred and eighty-eight two-year-olds have been kept eligible for the first running of the Golden Gate Futurity this fall, it was revealed today by Barry Whitehead, racing secretary at Golden Gate Fields. Eligibility payments for that number of sophomore thoroughbreds out of the original list of 293 nominations were received by the East Bay course prior to the deadline last Saturday, a tabulation completed this morning disclosed. With the track offering a purse of 5,000 added, the value of the race, which will be run on Golden Gate Fields closing day, Saturday, December 18, reached 2,630. Whitehead estimates that by race time, additional payments and fees will raise the value to more than 5,000. The Futurity, open to foals of 1952, will be run at the distance of one mile.
