Ambler II, Disappoints In Workout for Derby Former Choice for Epsom Classic Trails His Newmarket Companions Special to Daily Racing Form j ■ NEWMARKET, England, May 25 Reuters. — Belair Studs Ambler II., former favorite for the Epsom Derby, gave a disappointing display in a workout here this morning. William Woodward Jr.s bay had Walter Jeffords Blue Prince II., Queen Elizabeths 1952 Derby runner-up Aureole and the route-running handicap horse Papillio as his galloping companions. Ambler H. was in the rear of the group in the early part of the spin and didnt improve his position. Commenting on the gallop, Captain Boyd-Rochfort said: "I am at a loss to explain his form. The horse is perfectly well and his present form is as much of a surprise to me as was his Lingfield Park Derby Trial display." Boyd-Rochfort also stated: "However, there is no question about him taking part in the Derby unless his owner decides otherwise. The final decision does, of course, rest with Mr. Woodward, but at present Ambler II. is a definite starter." Final acceptors for the Epsom classic will be known tomorrow. At present 137 sophomores are still engaged.
