Queen Hopeful, Riverina Delaware Oaks Nominees Fifty-Nine Formidable Fillies Named for Rich Event, June 29 STANTON, Del., May 25. — Queen Hopeful, top juvenile money-winner of her sex last year with 69,534 and a triple stakes heroine to" date this season, heads the 59 nominations announced today for the 16th and richest Delaware Oaks, to be renewed at Delaware Park on June 26. The earl y-closing, mile-and-a-furlong special is expected to gross at least 2,500, including 2,500 added money for its 1954 version. Delaware Park annually increases the purse value of the fixture for 3 -year-old fillies by ,500. Nominations for this years renewal closed May 1, 1953, with additional eligibility payments last October 1 and April 15. The date for the Delaware Oaks running, which last season featured the Memorial Day program, has been nu;ed back this year to place it in the best sequence with other major stakes for distaff division stars. Nine days later, the 00,000-added, mile-and-a-quarter New CastleHandicap, worlds richest race for fillies and mares, j tops Delawares closing program on July 5. Queen Hopeful, a ,800 yearling buy for Mr. and Mrs. Allie Reubens Hasty House i Farm, has won half of her 22 starts; never, been out of the money, and now has 37,-134 to her credit. However, plenty of Oaks opposition looms for the filly. Among recent stakes winners named are King Ranchs Riverina Acorn and On Your Own Betsy Ross. Other formidable aspirants include Incidentally, Small Favor, Spy Magic, Waila, OAlison, Indian Legend, Banquet Belle, Greek Lady — all 1953 stakes winners — and the untried Wild Applause, a full sister to the famed Spartan Valor, who cost 7,000 as a yearling in 1952.
