Iroquois Purse Heads Excellent Sport For Ladies Day Program at Hazel Park Intelligent, Trip Lightly, Mark Kiaine Among Seven Sprinters Going Postward By BUD LYON HAZEL PARK, Mich., June 5. Ladies Day is the main attraction here Thursday and for the fair sex, racing secretary Horace Wade has carded the Iroquois Purse at six furlongs as his main offering of the program. Seven top allowance sprinters passed the entry box this morning at time of closing and a perusal of their form indicates that there is little to choose between any of them. Slated to match strides in the Iroquois are: Mrs. G. C. Whites Trip Lightly, M. Adelharts Cow Town, R. B. Walters Paris All, Mrs. J. M. Harts Mark Kiaine, G. W. Morrisons Orchid, Simpson and Wises Had-areward and G. and K. Stables Intelligent. Intelligent, off his form of last year, figures to be the one to beat here, for the altered son of the speedy Olympia proved to be the champion sprinter in the Detroit area last year while winning seven races. : The gelding campaigned in Florida this past winter against some of the nations best sprinters and while unsuccessful in his quest for a purse he was still close up much of the time. Following the close of the Gulfstream Park session Intelligent was given a much needed rest and Thursday will return to the racing wars for an arduous summer campaign. Possibly his best effort of the winter was the strong second he turned in against Good Gesture in a six furlongs allowance event at Gulfstream while conceding the winner four pounds and being defeated by just three lengths in fast time. Mark Kiaine is an old favorite with Detroit fans, for last year he won seven races during his Michigan campaign and is just now making his return to the races following a four-month layoff. Trainer Johnny Hart has the Calumet-bred gelding fit according to his morning tmie trials and will attempt to run up another extended skein of victories during the coming months. Trip Lightly, a handicap .mare of two years backmade her seasonal debut here Continued on Page Thirty-Eight Iroquois Purse Tops Fine Ladies Day Card at Hazel Continued from Page One early in the meeting and turned in a top effort while finishing in the runner-up position to Roman Spy. That showing should give advance warning of what could be expected of her Thursday, for she undoubtedly needed the race and will certainly not encounter any Roman Spys in this Field. Last year she won four of 16 starts while earning some 6,000. Hadareward, another member of the fair sex in "the field, made her second outing of the year, having turned in her debut last January, against Roman Spy and finished well up the track. This effort was not by any means indicative of her form and improvement should be noted Thursday.
