Stakes Candidates In Belmont .Works Traffic Judge Travels Six Furlongs in 1:14; Winged Mercury in Good Speed Test By Stafj Correspondent BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 5. Candidates for Saturdays 0,000 Metropolitan Mile and next Wednesdays 0,000 Shevlin for three-year-olds at seven furlongs, were put through their paces here this morning. Lou P. Dohertys Traffic Judge, winner of a sprint here for his first start since the Santa Anita meeting, breezed six furlongs in 1:14 under a light hold for the Metropolitan. He gets in the rich event with a moderate 118 pounds. Christiana Stables Ricci Tavi, who also has 118 in the week-end fixture, sped a handy three-quarters on the slower and deeper training track this morning, getting the distance in 1:16 in very handy style. Maine Chance Farms Winged Mercury, a three-year-old who is eligible to both the Metropolitan and Shevlin, sped three furlongs in :34 on the main track in company with Sequoia. Both impressed the work watchers with their speed. Cain Hoy Stables Red God, who has been working impressively for some time, stepped the Shevlin distance in 1:25 on" the main track. With Pete Anderson in the saddle, the son of Nasrullah stepped the fractions in :36, :48 and 1:13, last eighth in :12. Though he is eligible for the Shevlin, an easier spot will probably be found for Red Gods second American start and his first since the Hialeah meeting. Greek Spy Sent Three-Quarters Sherrill Ward sent Mrs. C. TJlrick Bays Greek Spy a handy six furlongs in 1:13 on the fast main strip. The four-year-old gets in the Metropolitan with 112 pounds. Mrs. Adele L. Rands Clem, who was beaten inches by Iron Liege in the Jersey Stakes-last out, went a handy six furlongs in 1:12 for the Shevlin. Bill Stephens charge went the half mile in :48 and five panels in 1:00. Jim Maloney sent W. Haggin Perrys fine three-year-old filly, Alanesian, an easy three panels in :35. The Unbeaten daughter of Polynesian appears to be coming along steadily and should be ready for the races before long. Perrys colt, Georgian Prinz, a recent impressive winner, went a handy three-quarters in 1:13. He may be seen in the Withers Mile on June 24. Over at Aqueduct, Mr. Fitz sent Wheat-ley Stables Belmont Stakes favorite, Bold Ruler a handy mile and a quarter in 2:11. The Preakness winner was clocked the half mile in :51, three-quarters in 1:17, seven furlongs in 1:29, mile in 1:42 and nine panels in 1:57. At the same track, Jack Weipert Jr., sent D and M Stables Inside Tract a handy six furlongs in 1:16. After finishing a good third to Bold Ruler and Iron Liege in the Preakness, the colt rapped himself in the Jersey Stakes, but is fully recovered and is pointing for the Belmont.
