Van Zandt Reports Demand For Stalls at Ellis Park CAHOKIA DOWNS, East St. Louis, 111., June 5. L. Henderson Van Zandt, racing secretary here, and who holds a similar position at James C. Ellis Park at JHender-son, Ky., returned from a week-end visit to that one mile and one-eighth course and while there was informed by general manager Lester E. Yeager that stall applications are coming in steadily and through Monday there were enough on file to more than fill the barns at the Ohio River course. Several hundred applications represent more than 1,000 horses whose owners have applied for housing. Condition books covering the annual 29-day session which begins Wednesday, July 31 and terminates Labor Day, are being distributed by Van Zandt at this racing plant. Purses have been raised over last year and the minimum purse for the 1957 session is ,145, including sixth money in all races. Last year the organization gave fifth monies in all their events with the exception of marathon races when all starters that finished worse than fifth -were given a bonus.
