PLANNING FOR DERBY DAY Expect Crowd of 75,000 — Providing Parking Space for About 9,000 Cars. Washington Park is to be provided with additional parking space for motor cars. Decoration Day 8,000 automobiles were driven to the course. They occupied all available territory, and hundreds lined roadways in several directions. C. W. Hay, general manager, has directed that provision be made for at least 1.000 more cars. Before the running of the American Derby. Saturday, June 15, the parking arrangement will have been improved to a satisfactory point. Plans have been perfected to place cars in i a manner designed to eliminate confusion av.d j facilitate traffic. It is pointed out by gener;sl manager Hay that it has been demonstrate 1 that the Illinois Central electrified lines have provided transportation from Randolph Street to the gates of Washington Park that surpass previous efforts In this connection. The track is placed within thirty minutes of the loop. Through trains have covered the twenty-five miles in twenty-seven minutes. The transportation feature alone, Hay declares, assures the popular success of Washington Park. He added : "The real test will be June 15, when the American Derby is run. I anticipate that no less than 75,000 people will witness this race. I am checking up with the railroad officials to give the public 100 per cent service en that occasion. However, it is going to lie difficult to improve the present standard." »
