OMAHA TRACK SEA OF MUD Old Kickapoo First in Council Bluffs Handicap — Large Crowd Despite Rain. OMAHA, Neb., June 1.— A crowd of well over 5,000 braved the most disagreeable weather imaginable to make the trip to Ak-Sar-Ben Field this afternoon to witness the running of a seven-race program of which the Council Bluffs Handicap was the feature. Rain fell all afternoon and the track was a sea of mud. The main attraction was won by Old Kickapoo, which set the pace and scored a rather handy victory. Sheridan finished in second place and Jack Alexander was third. A field of eight went to the post and the contest they provided was spirited, considering the condition of the track. The first disqualification of the meeting came with the running of the first race when Laguna, which finished first, was set back for fouling Easter Seth as the field turned into the stretch. Laguna set the pace with Easter Seth at her flank, but at the final turn Jenkins, on Laguna, allowed his mount to swerve half way across the track to knock Easter Seth off her stride. After questioning both Jenkins and jockey Redding, who was astride Easter Seth, the stewards ordered the numbers changed and Rag Baby, which had finished fast to pass Easter Seth in the final ten yards, was declared the winner. Second money went to Easter Seth and Preferred received the show award. The Jarvis-Waggoner starting gate was used for the second time at the meeting in the second race and three horses, apparently having not been schooled in the machine, refused to leave with the others. Two of the animals began slowly and Kanawha was left. The winner turned up in Watson, a son of Ballot, which liked the going and passed the pacemaking King Flame in the stretch. The latter was second and Thistle Glad was third.
