June 25.— The Beamsville Purse, an allowance affair over one mile and seventy yards, served as the principal attraction today, the second dav of the meeting at the Hamilton Jockey Club course. With a field of six starters, enthusiasm was rife as the horses appeared well matched. However, there was very little to the running, as Contemplate, from the Harry C Hatch stable, made a runaway affair of the race when he led throughout the entire journey to win by ten lengths from Rockslide, which carried the silks of Frank Hayes. Hanna Deebe, one of the pair that raced for J. C. Fletcher, raced into third place, and Mart Malone led the two others. Five minutes was lost at the post due to the fractiousness of the Hatch colorbearer, but when the barrier finally was released, the field began in good alignment, with Contemplate away fast. The latter, in the short dash to the first turn, readily assumed command and in the remaining stages of the journey raced along in easy fashion until the end found iim well in advance of the others. Rockslide took second place by two lengths, while Hanna Deebe was a length to the fore of Mart Malone. with Perlapides and Royal Watch following. Threatening weather before race time did not dishearten racing fans from turning out for the second day of the meeting and. despite light showers during the early hours c-f the morning, the track was fast and good time was recorded. OFF TO GOOD START. Form players got off to a good start with the ushering in of the program for the afternoon, when they pinned their hopes on Cliftons Maid, from the Flamingo Farm Stable. The filly accounted for the five-eighths sprint after a furious drive, to take the measure of C. L. Whitings Sidney W., by a neck. Third was secured by Willow, the two remaining starters. Regular Broom and Queen Gorin, finishing in the order named, and well back of the leading trio. Slate had the mount on the victress, which covered the route in 1:01%. The winner and Sidney W. battled from the very beginning for honors, and it was only during the final eighth that the Flamingo starter was able to get into the lead to withstand a terrific drive. The first victory at the meeting for the Mrs. B. C. Hart stable came with the decision of the third race, in which a field of ten start ?d over three-quarters. Pipestem emerged victorious after a gruelling drive to get up right at the end to take the measure of H. G. Bed-wells Mac Maxim by a scant margin. Ponuy, after forcing all of the pace, lasted to be third, while Noon finished an exceedingly close fourth to lead the remaining starters. The winner, last in the early stages, moved up fast leaving the back stretch, weaved nia way through the others in the stretch and under Zateslos urging got up in the final strides. MAIDEX RIDERS IN SADDLE. H. G. Bedwells Fair Jimmie, with W. Cannon in the saddle, was the winner of the second race, over three-quarters, for non-winners, for which each of the entrants had the service of maiden riders. Eight started, with the winner one of the best backed, and his victory came in easy fashion when, after following the leaders for the first half-mile, he moved into a long lead at the final eighth post and, in the remaining stages, increased his advantage until the finish found him a dozen lengths in the lead of Ore, which raced for P. Gorman. Sir Stanley, after bolting to the extreme outside on the stretch turn, while leading, continued gamely to save third from Gallant Spark. Paul Ciceri furnished the winner of the fourth race when his colors were borne to a well-earned score by First Edition. She came from behind to reach the tiring leaders inside the final eighth, and under hard riding by jockey T. Wilson was able to earn the verdict by a head from A. T. Sansons Lan-nie. Alita Allen, the well-backed choice, was third after racing far back of the others for the first seven-eighths. A double victory was rounded out for jockey W. Cannon and the H. G. Bedwell stable when Forehead earned first honors in the semi-final race, decided over one mile and a sixteenth, for which there were seven starters. Forehead, coming from well back of the pace set by Grab Bag and Jrazer, moved into contention on the far turn and, under a severe drive, managed to get into the lead before the favorite, Crecy, which in turn was just a head in the van of Grab Bag. Izetta was right at the flanks to easily-lead the others.
