ARGIEN, suited by the footing, began from outside the others, raced WHITE BASKET into defeat and drew out in the final quarter mile under urging. WHITE BASKET showed good early speed, forced a steady pace for three-eighths and held on well to outfinish TOPIC A. The latter, hard ridden throughout, had no excuses. DESERVE, a factor for the first half mile, tired in the final drive. CARROTS began well, but lacked speed. RIVER LEE did not fancy the going. QQOV SECOND RACE— 3-4 Mile. CANDY MAN, away in the first flight and, racing close up from the start, took command leaving the back stretch, went out into the better footing entering the stretch and had enough left to withstand PANDORUS. The latter worked his way up on the outside early and finished gamely. HUMBER SIDE closed fast. FAIR FORTUNE showed good speed in the going for five eighths, then tired. IRISH SPHERE tired. FLASHING GEM moved up with a rush when approaching the turn, secured command midway of the turn, was taken out into the firmer footing and held BROTHER JOHNSON safe. The latter moved up stoutly on the outside when called on. finished courageously, but could net menace the winner. KINSMAN reached contention rounding the turn and closed stoutlv. CRITTALL was used up racing with TICKLETOES and tired in the final drive. TICKLETOES showed early speed. DONNA BON broke his left hind ankle and was eased up. ELIZABETH, reserved off the pace until midway of the back stretch, went to the leaders with a rush, opened up a winning lead when straightened into the home stretch and finished with much in reserve. MANAGER EVERS, placed forwardly, closed with good courage, but was held perfectly safe. GRANITE DUST was unable to improve his position in the final eighth. WEST POINT trailed far back early and passed tiring horses at the end. BARBER JOHN and LAWLESS raced each other into submission. HIGHLAND CHIEF went into a good lead, but tired in the final eighth. FOREST LORE met with no mishaps. STRONG TACKLE began fullv in motion, hut was unable to keep up.
