Murphy yesterday received a telegram from the Thistle Down management at Cleveland that the dates for the summer meeting had been officially set, commencing Saturday, July 18, and closing on Saturday, August 22, making thirty-one days of racing. The meeting is attracting wide attention : from the better class of horsemen, and many ; of the stables that are now racing at Chi- , cago, and which intend racing later at La- i tonia, will be shipped for the meeting at the close of the Latonia meeting. Several pretentious stables are going direct from here to Cleveland. Among the number will be the stables of J. O. Keene and John Whitlow, the joint establishment having twenty-seven horses, Jack Carter is also going with Gracious Gift and other useful horses in his charge, and it is probable that this number will be augmented by many others now racing here. Judge Murphy, who has agreed to act as director of racing at Thistle Down, will open the meeting there and remain for the first few days, returning to Chicago, of course, for the Hawthorne meeting. After his departure from Cleveland, starter James Milton will make his bow as a presiding steward, and Long Taw" Welter will take up the starting. A Bahr starting gate will be shipped to Cleveland in the next few days to be used at the meeting.
