Oswego and Knights Call, the star son 1 of Bright Knight, in B. B. Jones Audley r Farm Stable, are formidable additions to 1 the ranks of western three-year olds and, ■ while both, due to ill luck, failed to accept • for the Kentucky Derby, they promise to be 1 at their best for the great Washington Park : fixture, to be renewed at one mile and a 1 quarter on June 20. The illness that forced Oswego out of • training four weeks before the Kentucky Derby left him unaffected and Knights Call has completely recovered from injuries sustained while racing at Agua Caliente. Returned to top form, the two colts, leaders among the western juveniles last year, • should prove formidable bidders for American " Derby honors and their presence in the field for that race brings it into greater ; inmortance. In the Washington Park race they are expected to encounter Twenty Grand, Mrs. Payne Whitneys Kentucky Derby winner; ; Charles T. Fishers Sweep All and Theodore ; E. Muellers Pittsburgher, leading western three-year-olds of the present season; Mate, the A. C. Bostwick colt, successful in the Preakness Stakes; W. J. Salmons Ladder, Mrs. J. N. Marschs Chief John; Sunny Lassie, the Mid-dleburg Stable filly, and possibly others. With fifteen starters, the American Derby will have a gross value of 1,200, of which the winner will carry off all but 0,000, which represents second, third and fourth moneys. The 1,200 that would go to the owner of the winner with fifteen racing the one mile and a quarter is the exact amount taken down by J. A. Bests Reveille Boy when he contributed one of the outstanding upsets of last years racing in accounting for the previous American Derby. There is wide interest in the coming race and officials of the Washington Park Jockey Club are satisfied that it will attract to Chicago more enthusiasts from near and far than any race since the revival of the sport in Illinois. Reserved boxes and seats for the day are selling rapidly and numerous reservations have been made by devotees in many parts of the country.
