MISSTEP TRAINING AGAIN May Make First Public Appearance Hereabouts in Hawthorne Handicap on August 8. It is probable that Misstep, one of the most popular horses that ever sported silk in the history of Chicago racing, will make its comeback in a major race in the Hawthorne Handicap, to be run August 8. Mose Lowenstein, who has the horse in charge, has applied for stalls for his entire string, which will be merged in Chicago within the next few days, and will race through the Hawthorne summer meeting. Misstep went slightly amiss at Arlington last summer and several attempts were made to bring him to the post for the fall Classic. Each time, however, his ailing leg fevered up, and it was thought best to lay him away for another year. Reports are that the champion is now training soundly and will be a potent factor in the events to be decided later in the year. No attempt will be made to hurry him and his first objective now is the Hawthorne Handicap. It is probable that the greatest field in the history of Hawthorne will be assembled for this race. Coming within a week after the close of the Arlington meeting, it is expected that all of the cracks that will be racing at Latonia, will be back to meet the eastern and western horses that will race at Arlington during July. A number of eastern owners have signified their intention of entering and trying for the Hawthorne Handicap. This applies to many of the stables which expect to race at Saratoga, as there are no races for three-year-olds and over of any great value early in that meeting. •
