: ; , i MAY RIDE AFTER JULY 1 Two jockeys who had shown skill at a tender age. but were denied the right to ride on the Kentucky and Illinois tracks on account of their youthfulness, have been granted licenses. These lads, Verlyn Smith and Stanley Lipiec, having been granted licenses in Illinois and will be permitted to accept mounts after July 1. Verlyn Smith is a brother of Dent Smith, who was denied a license at the same meeting of the license committee of the Illinois Turf Association. Verlyn Smith is under contract to the Greentree Stable and was a sensation in the turf world two years ago. Young Smith rode successfully last winter at Oriental Park. He is in condition to maintain his early reputation.
