RENO OPENING JULY FIRST W. P. Kyne in Nevada City Making Arrangements for Inaugural — Jack Dempsey to Be Guest. RENO, Nev., June 24.— Racing will be ushered in here July 1 by no less a personage than Jack Dempsey. The former champion and promoter of the twenty round Paulino-Baer fight in the race track arena here on the Fourth of July will be the honored guest of the stewards for the running of the Jack Dempsey Inaugural Handicap. Following the race he will present a trophy to the winning owner. The second day of the meeting will be turned over to Max Baer, Oakland heavyweight. The Baer Handicap will mark the high spot of the afternoon, with Baer and his entire training camp and followers in attendance. Baer will occupy a box in the Club house with Dolph Thomas, his trainer, •nd his managers. Friday, July 3, and the day before the fight, will he Paulinos own. The Bounding Basque will bring not only his sparring mates and manager, Lou Brix, but at least 1,000 of his countrymen, of whom there are an abundance in Nevada. William P. Kyne, general manager of the Reno Racing Association, arrived today from Richardson Hot Springs, where he has been taking a short vacation. Kyne will take over preparations for the opening, and promises several innovations. With his staff of assistants practically all on the ground, little remains to be done to have the course in condition for the inaugural. Kyne joined Jack Dempsey and leading Reno citizens in providing accommodations for the throngs which will be here for the race opening and remain over for the fight on the Fourth. Strenuous efforts will be made by both race track and fight managements to adequately take care of every visitor for the week-end of celebration preceding the fight.
