LINCOLN PLAUT SURPRISES « Jordan Colorbearer Defeats Good Band at Bainbridge. « Fair Beth Races in Disappointing Fashion —Miss Rosedale Triumphs in Opening Race of Day. ♦ CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 24. — Lincoln Plaut, racing for Matt Jordan, furnished a huge surprise when he won the Price Mc-Kinney Purse, the fifth race, which attracted the best field at Bainbridge Park this afternoon. Vacation raced closely lapped on the winner for the first half mile, but thereafter Lincoln Plaut was always master of the situation and won rather handily. Vacation had no opposition for second, finishing far In advance of the others. Fair Beth ruled favorite, but raced below expectations. She was badly outpaced in the early stages, but gained enough ground to beat the others in the stretch for the minor award. Castle Rock made his local debut in this event, but it was not very impressive. The remaining starters, Baritone and Account, both tired badly. The sport was staged under ideal conditions, and the attendance was of the usual mid-week day proportions. The finishes in a majority of the races were close enough to arouse keen enthusiasm. Jockey T. Luther sent Miss Rosedale to the front shortly after the start in the initial dash, and she was never in trouble thereafter. Purple Robe and Delma Dunn followed in closest pursuit of the winner until the stretch was reached. During the final furlong Purple Robe tired and Delma Dunn secured the second award -with considerable to spare. Purple Robe was best of the others. Lenny could never improve fourth position at any stage, and the others were always outpaced. Fleeting Fire displayed much the best speed of those engaged in the second race, and was never seriously threatened. The finish provided by Kind Words and Fortunate Mann for second was more interesting, the pair reaching the finish closely lapped in this order after having raced prominently throughout. Participate moved up boldly next to the inner rail, after entering the stretch but, in the final furlong, failed to secure racing room, finishing fourth but close up. Miss Onine left the barrier in a tangle and never recovered. Hasola carried the Bryson colors to victory in the third race, which was productive of a rousing stretch struggle. The Haste filly forced the pace until the stretch was reached, with Trueman showing the way. A furlong out Hasola took command and drew away into a clear lead during the last sixteenth. Cold Wave came strongly from the rear while racing on the outside of his field in the stretch, and outlasted Memphis Lass for second. The latter was a forward factor all the way. Trueman quit to a walk after being headed midway of the stretch. In a thrilling finish Nuckols Boy gained a head victory over Athens in the fourth race, after the pair had raced closely lapped all ibioujgh the final furlong. Nuckols Boy raced into the lead after the field had rounded the far turn, but Athens closed up steadily through the stretch, and the pair reached the finish racing as a team, with Athens slowly wearing the winner down. Kelleys Pride came again during the stretch run and dropped into third place, after President Seth retired as a serious factor.
