LOUIS MERRYMAN went to the outside of the leaders when moving into contention, assumed command entering the stretch and drew away. MARPLOT saved ground while racing close up and continued gamely in the iinal drive. SCUTTLE, forced to race on the outside, was held safe. BIG BLOW raced BLUE ARAB into defeat, dropped back on the second turn, but came again in the stretch. HURAWAY tired after challenging in the closing three-eighths. BLUE ARAB showed early speed. WENT TO POST— 3:06. AT POST— minute. Start good and slow. Won driving ; second and third the same. DRAGON DE VERTU galloped strongly for the first turn of the field and, moving up on the outside when urged in the closing half mile, disposed of BATTLE OF KILLIECRANKIE at the thirteenth fence and, steadied along thereafter, was shaken up after the last jump and withstood ALPHEUS. The latter, jumping boldly and well placed early, challenged gamely in the final three-eighths and closed resolutely. MY CARE, saved off the pace, improved his position gamely, but could not seriously threaten the leaders. POLINOS was always far hack. BATTLE OF KILLIECRANKIE showed good speed, jumped well, but tired fast. JINGLE had no mishaps. BLUE BANNER was eased up after the fourteenth obstacle. DEVILKIN was pulled up after the tenth fence. QUEENSWAY, following close to SPEY CREST, was shaken up near the stretch and, disposing of the pacemaker and hard urged, had enough in reserve to withstand EASTER HATTER. The latter went to the outside in the closing three-eighths and closed resolutely. SHADY WELL tired after challenging in the final half mile. KING OCONNOR could not reach the leaders. IMA QUEEN, racing forwardly from the start, came to the outside when entering the stretch and, closing stoutly, wore COMMON down inside the final eighth. COMMON raced MONEL into early defeat, went into a clear lead when straightened into the stretch, but was unable to withstand the winner. GUILDER worked his way up stoutly and finished with good courage. GAY PARTY, slow to begin, saved ground during the final three eighths and finished full of run. BLACK BOARD and WACKET were used up racing in early contention. YANKEE DOODLE went well early. KOPECK was outrun. MONEL quit to a walk. DEEDIE, under light restraint for three-quarters, gained resolutely in the last half mile, then wore down BURNSIDE entering the stretch and outlasted PARTISAN. The latter worked his way up on the inside, went to the outside in the final drive and was wearing down the winner. BROADWAY LIGHTS challenged gamely leaving the back stretch. BURNSIDE showed good speed while setting the pace. ST. TUSCAN was held safe. SWEET SENTIMENT tired badly, as did PRINCELY ATTENTION.
