| RIVERSIDE PARK TURF NOTES $ — £ The open claiming rule, which was put into effect here opening day, resulted in two claims, in which W. A. Mikel took Belgian La3S from the Oak Tree Stable for 00. Dr. Billy, winner of the second race Saturday, was claimed by O. L. Foster for 00. Jockey A. Roach accidentally shot himself while in a shooting gallery here Saturday night. Roach, who was shooting at moving targets, dropped the rifle he was using on the floor, and the weapon was discharged and a bullet struck him on the right leg. He was removed to the General Hospital here. Apprentice rider G. Smith was fined 5 by the stewards for careless riding astride Dixie Dan in the seventh race Saturday. Smith eased up his mount after going three-eighths of a mile when he was under the impression that the race was over. Smiths explanation was that it was the first time he had ever ridden on a track smaller than a mile and when he passed the judges stand he commenced easing up. Dixie Dan finished second and was beaten less than a length.
