I | LATONIA TRACK FASTER | J AND SAFER THAN BEFORE J LATONIA, Ky., May 25.— The Latonia race track is better now than it has been since it was resoiled three years ago. After the fall meeting of 1931 Charles Nolte, track superintendent, covered the racing strip with a layer of manure, which was removed this spring and the track was thoroughly worked. Now it is faster than it has been in three years and safer than it was when Chilhowee, Sun Flag and Zev established the present records for a mile and a furlong, six furlongs and a mile. Nolte said: "The track has a good cushion. You will be surprised to see how fast it dries out." It so happened that a heavy rain fell shortly after Nolte had made the remark Tuesday and an hour afterwards the course appeared to be fast. This morning it was very good and with a little work, would be lightning fast. Horses have worked five-eighths in 1:00 and better this spring and horsemen quartered at the Milldale course j i are high in praise of the strip. A majority of the barns are receiving new roofs and Nolte expects to have everything ; ready for the big reception of horses from ; Chicago, Bainbridge and other points for the thirty-one day meeting that starts Saturday. ■ June 25. ♦
