QUEENSWAY SCORES AGAIN » Adds Breeders Stakes to Her List of Triumphs. ♦ Duplicates Froth Blowers Feat of Last Year for R. W. R. Cowie — Gold Cup Race Decided. TORONTO, Ont., May 25— R. W. R. Cowies Queensway, conqueror of the best home-breds that could be mustered for the recent renewal of Canadas most famous racing prize, the Kings Plate, came back with a sterling performance here this afternoon when she conceded lumps of weight to six others of her own age to triumph and duplicate the dual success that was accomplished by Froth Blower, another of the Cowie racers, when she administered defeat to her half dozen opponents in the forty-second running of the Breeders Stakes at the Woodbine course of the Ontario Jockey Club. Picking up ten pounds over her weight in the Kings Plate, the gallant daughter of Old Koenig and Chrysoberil, reached the end of the one mile and a sixteenth leading home Easter Hatter, from the Harry C. Hatch stable, and adding just ,410 to her earnings. Third fell to Shady Well, which raced coupled with King OConnor in the silks of the Seagram Stable, with the latter leading home Spey Crest, Easter Dandy and Serfman. The Breeders Stakes, fortified by the twenty-eighth renewal of the King Edward Gold Cup Handicap, which was the fifth race, were the outstanding events on the fourth day of the meeting, and it was a large and representative gathering that witnessed the dual features. With a threat of rain previous to the beginning of the program, the clouds gave way to a warm sun, and the afternoon was one of the finest of racing days of the present session. Starter Cassidy experienced a delay of eight and one-half minutes before a suitable alignment could be secured in the Breeders Stakes. All left in good order, although Easter Dandy, beginnirig from outside the barrier, crossed over too soon and forced Continued on twenty-second page. j , . • QUEENSWAY SCORES AGAIN .Continued from first page. King OConnor back as he attempted to go into early contention. Spey Crest and Queensway went out to show the way and raced closely lapped as Easter Dandy led » the others. Spey Crest was holding to his task gamely as he reached the far turn. • Queensway displaced the Wright starter when turning into the stretch, and kept under a drive, was winner by a length and | one-half, with Easter Hatter two lengths before Shady Well. Mr. Cowie received 00 I additional for breeding the winner. Louis Merryman, racing for Mrs. W. L. Brodie, and well ridden by W. Magner, reg- * istered a clean cut victory in the opener at . one mile and seventy yards. C. V. Whitneys Marplot was second, and A. C. Bostwicks | Scuttle earned the short end of the spoils. Neglected in the wagering and trailing off the pacemakers for the first six fur- i longs, Louis Merryman circled around his opponents, disposed of Blue Arab, from the Hastings stable, when approaching the stretch turn and through the final stages came away, until the finish found him across the winning line with three lengths to spare over Marplot, while Scuttle was under a furious drive to beat C. Smythes Big Blow a length for third place. Jockey Paul McGinnis, who was seen astride Arundel in the opening race that took place on the flat, scored his first sue- I cess through the jumping field when he rode a particularly good race to have John Bos- -leys veteran steeplechaser, Dragon de Vertu, winner of the Minto Steeplechase over the short two-mile route and in which nine others opposed the victor. This was the second race, and the winner raced coupled with Blue Banner, another of the Bosley performers, and Mrs. T. W. Durants Polinos. Alpheus, one of two that raced for Mrs. F. A. Clark, landed in second place, and third was easily accounted for by William Garths My Care, when he took the measure of Polinos with four others in their wake. For the first turn of the field Battle of Killiecrankie, from the Queen City Stable, threatened to make a runaway of the race. The imported gelding sprinted into a lead of a dozen lengths, to remain in that position for the first mile. Alpheus was in closest pursuit and Jingle led the others?. McGinnis had Dragon de Vertu in fifth position and his mount was going along smoothly and seemingly able to improve his position when called upon. Going to the thirteenth jump, Battle of Killiecrankie showed effects of needed conditioning and dropped back. Alpheus and Dragon de Vertu moved at the same time to displace the Queen City racer and, over the next two jumps, the Bosley veteran came away until he was home two lengths before Alpheus, and My Care beat the others by an additional twelve lengths. The Patricia Plate, offered as the fourth race, furnished opportunity for the juvenile home-breds to display their speed, and it saw Bald Crest, from. the J. P. White stable, graduating when she raced to a front-running triumph. Her score came about in a drive in which her margin of victory was just a scant half length. W. H. Wrights Kings Bounty earned a nose decision for second, while J. C. Fletchers Heap Good barely lasted to beat R. S. McLaughlins Happy Hopes, which performed as though much the best, with the others more or less strung out. Trainer William Bringloe of the Seagram Stable has arranged to take up the good sprinter Sun Craig and place him in training. Sun Craig has been turned out at the Seagram farm in Waterloo, Ont. Gene Bury, who serves as racing secretary on several Canadian and American tracks, was an arrival from Baltimore. Allie Loudon, general manager of the Hamilton Jockey Club, announced that the program book covering the racing to be conducted the latter part of June is now in the hands of jthe printers and will be shortly distributed among the horsemen. Purses will range from 00 to ,200 and as usual a daily event will be over the turf course, which is the only one of its kind on the North American continent.
