Tred Avon, the game, gray daughter of Sir Greysteel and La Muiron, racing for S. W. Labrot and cap ably ridden by jockey J. Burke, triumphed, standing a hard drive to overhaul her recent conqueror, Clotho, from the C. V. Whitney establishment. Frumper, under the silks of Mrs. H. Pyne, accounted for third. From a good start it was Clotho that was quickest in stride and, outrunning his field to the first turn, opened up a good lead. Frumper was racing in second place and the gray filly was heading the others, with Joe Flores leading only one member of the field, Royal Ruffin. There was no change in the positions in the run through the back stretch and, as the field reached the far turn, Clotho was still running in front. Frumper and Tred Avon were next and racing heads apart. Burke stayed close to the rail while making the turn, came to the outside for the final drive. Barnes went to the whip on Clotho near the furlong post and still held command. Tred Avon was not to be denied, however, and slowly moving up to the Whitney colt, got on even terms a few yards from the finish and managed to show in front in the final strides. I It was a fitting finish to one of the best contests of the meeting and the winner was loudly acclaimed as she cantered back to !
