GALAXY OF STARS. Despite the withdrawal of Burgoo King, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the galaxy of probable participants in the race, which has every qualification of a titular contest, will include William Wood- wards Faireno, winner of the Belmont Stakes; Boatswain, triumphant in the Withers Stakes for W. M. Jeffords; J. HN Louch- heims Economic, first in the Ohio State Derby; Mrs. John Hay Whitneys brilliant Stepenfetchit, a dangerous contender for the three-year-old crown; Mrs. L. G. Kaufmans On Post; W. R. Coes Osculator; George D. Wideners Evening; W. S. Kilmers Sun-1 melus; H. P. Headleys Big Beau; M. L. Schwartz Gusto; W. J. Salmons Mad Pur-l suit along with others that may include Top Flight, C. V. Whitneys filly and winner Thursday, last, of the Coaching Club Ameri-l can Oaks. With the winners of the Belmont Stakes, Withers Stakes, Ohio State Derby, Florida Derby and other races of no small importance meeting at a mile and one-quarter in this his-i toric and prized Washington Park fixture, the championship aspects of the race are vividly reflected. It is indeed a good break for Chicago enthusiasts that so many of the three-year-olds are yet in the running for the championship and that all are available for the Washington Park race. Judging from the advance sale of reservations for the day the elation of devotees over the prospects of the Derby winner being crowned champion, is just as keen as that of Col. M. J. Winn and C. W. Hay, president and general manager, respectively, of the Washington Park Jockey Club. Colonel Winn and Mr. Hay have been striving for such a race for several years and with that ambition realized, thanks to the racing fans, they are overjoyed. NILES CENTER PURSE. On Monday, the program opening Derby week, possesses one of the big attractions of the meeting to date, in the mile and seventy yards, Niles Center Purse, for three-year- olds and in whic*i six of the Derby hopefuls, along with four others of lessei prominence will clash. The Derby horses entered for this important preliminary are: Mad Pur-l suit. Big Beau. Sunm lus, Prince Hotspur, Adobe Post and Our Fancy and the result may bring to light a potential Derby threat. Saturday found Adobe Post and Mad Pur- suit having their final preparation for the "Niles Center," the former working seven-eighths in 1:27%, handily, and the latter three-quarters in 1:19 eezing. During the same period of training at the Homewood course, Marmion, C. B. Shaffers Derby hope, worked a mile and one-eigh in 1:53%, handily and Osculator, without being fully extended, clicked off five-eighths in the fast time of 1:00%. Boatswain, along with Faireno, On Post, Gusto and possibly Top Flight, comes to the local track early this week and Stepenfetchit is due Monday.
