I HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES . : W. E. Coover has taken over the horses Mowris, Moderation, Hour Girl, War Time, Her Answer and Aleader to train for J. H. Manheimer. Coover supplants J. E. Patton, who was training for Manheimer. A. Ketchell is an arrival from Thistle Down with the four-year-old mare Batty, which was a consistent winner at the Cleveland tracks. Val Crane has taken a three year contract on Roscoe Hardesty. The youngster has applied for a license and will probably be unr der silks before the Hawthorne meeting terminates. Hardesty hails from National City, Calif., and is eighteen years old. Sam Hutcherson, who trained the horses of the Rosehome Stable for several years, has affiliated with I. Bettenhausen and will direct the conditioning of Playlex and Distant Drum. "Nick" Huff is making the engagements of jockey J. Flynn, who made an auspicious saddle debut Wednesday by riding the long-priced Lucky Carter to victory. Jockey Willie Garner will ride at Tanforan for the first time this fall. He will motor West in company with Steve ODonnell and be on hand for the opening. It was stated today that the horses of J. B. Partridge, which includes the good three-year-old Crystal Prince, would be shipped to Tanforan. Partridge "is the man who developed Burning Blaze, crack two-year-old of last season. John Carey will leave for Springfield, 111., Friday and will serve as presiding judge at the seven-race card to be given Saturday, which is Governors Day. Charles McLennan, who will serve as racing secretary and judge, will leave Friday night.
