LAKE SHORE TO FREE HELEN Daughter of Alibi Is Not Extended in Victory Over French Maid. Pencliant Proves Best In Bainbridge Park Fourth Race, Defeating Diodoro Northern Sir a Winner. GEAUGA LAKE, Ohio, Aug. 25. The Lake Shore Purse held the feature position on the Bainbridge Park program today and, although it was not the. most exciting race of the day, it held the interest of a fairly large crowd until Free Helen drew away decisively in the last eighth of the mile and seventy yards. The daughter of Alibi, which scored her last victory on the Bainbridge track early last June and has run a half-dozen times since, was the lightweight of the party and, doubtless, the lack of a burden was largely responsible for the easy manner in which she achieved her success. She went to the front early and, although French Maid threatened for a time to make the contest a thriller, when her jockey called on her to make assurance doubly sure Free Helen, moved away in handy fashion. Tantalizing finished third, but was doing his best to hold the position against the resolute finish of Arrowlike. Jockey M. Knight, who returned yesterday from Chicago, made his presence felt by piloting his first mount to victory. This was The French Rose in the opener. Best Maifou and The French Rose raced closely lapped until straightened out for the stretch run. The Bronnenberg filly then drew away into a clear lead, which she retained through the last eighth. Best Maifou was hard pressed during the closing stages to save the place in a drive from Amour by a narrow margin. James Bronnenberg made it a double when his Bell" Cap led throughout and scored an easy victory in the second race. Shadow Dawn, after racing on the outside all the last half, barely saved second from tho strongly closing Ottie M., which came from far back in the stretch. Northern Sir graduated from the maiden ranks when he wore down Bal Ele during the last seventy yards of the third race to score by half a length. Bal Ele displayed the most speed from the start and, although much the best of the remainder, the favorite failed to withstand the challenge of the winner. Zode always held the balance safe. After wresting the lead from Last Hour when nearing the half-mile pole, Penchant steadily drew away from her opposition and held the fourth race safe all through the stretch. Diodoro was well up throughout but bore over to the inside when a furlong out, blocking Yes Yes when closing strongly next to the inner rail and finished a rather handy second. Sniper came with a brilliant rush in the stretch, forcing Yes Yes to a drive to save third by a narrow margin. Shonna, well fancied, began slowly and was never prominent.
