LEADING AMERICAN JOCKEYS "Hank" Mills took a firmer grip on the lead over other American jockeys last week by riding eight winners, while S. Coucci and J. Gilbert rode wtih scant success. G. Elston had another good week, with seven winners, and A. Robertson followed up bis fine record of ten the week before by riding seven. He needed all of these to retain fifth. place, however, as B. Hanford rode nine winners and advanced beyond W. D. Wright and G. Smith in the standing. While last week was a good one for the leaders just mentioned, all were outdone by A. Beck, who had hitherto been little noticed. Beck rode fifteen winners, an unusual number, and his record for the last two weeks is twenty-three winners. His services have been in considerable demand lately and last week he had forty-one mounts, riding more than one-third to victory and increasing his average for the year to .20. Beck is now forging on toward the 100 mark in winners. Records of the thirty leaders up to and including October 15 follow: Last Jockey. Mts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp.P.CWk.
