Trainer Clyde Phillips sent him five furlongs in 1:03, the quarter in :24, arid half mile in :49, and he galloped out three-quarters in 1:17. Tomorrow is workday for J. E. Wideners winter book choice, Chance Sun; J. J. Flanigans Chanceview, and Jouett Shouses Weston. James W. Parrishs Jawapa and Mrs. Hollis W. Ruders Blackbirder are the latest Derby nominees to reach this section. The latter arrived at Douglas Park yesterday, and the former, accompanied by nine stable companions, is at Churchill Downs, having unloaded about the same time. The two candidates last campaigned at Miami. Others in the Parrish stable, which is trained by John Goode, include the Kentucky Oaks candidate Scarp, Double R. and the two-year-olds Johnny Tight, Tenace, Morlute, Parrish Roach, Satin Wood and Grey Nose. The three-year-old filly Stricken and three unnamed two-year-olds come over from the Parrish farm at Midway tomorrow. Additions to the division of the William R. Coe stable that Clyde Phillips is training at the Downs include the youngsters Reunited. The Gong, Pompeys Squaw, Gorgeous Hussy, Primulus, Herondas and Pompeys Pillar. Others in the string- are the crack handicap racer Ladysman, which finished second in the Santa Anita 00,000 Handicap; Bluebeard, one of the ranking choices for the Derby; Semaphore, Fom-paria, Clean Out and Squeezer. Schooling of two-year-olds at both Churchill Downs and Douglas Park is under way. Starter William Hamiltons assistants yesterday inaugurated this tedious and important work. More than two score youngsters visited the stalls at Churchill Downs, and about half that number had. their first barrier lessons at the Beechmont course. Jockey Glen Fowler, who needs no introduction to racing fans, is slated to do the riding for the stable of racing commissioner William E. Smith. He reported to trainer Jack Weaver yesterday and will assist in preparing the large Smith string for the season. Likewise, Sora, King Cicero and Felawake, the latter a half brother to the "morning glory" Knockaway, are among the ten horses Weaver is conditioning for the president of the Standard Oil Company of Kentucky. Mrs. F. C. Mars Milky Way Farms Stable, headed by the Derby eligibles, Whiskolo, Gallaclay, Blue Armor and South Gallant, and the crack filly, Wise Daughter, is expected here from Arlington Downs within a few days after the close of that meeting. Trainer Bob McGarvey hopes to win the Texas Derby with either Whiskolo or Gallaclay. Harry S. Hart, with Leo J. Marks large stable, is another coming here from that Texas track. He may, however, take the stable to Lemar Stock Farm near Lexington before moving into the Downs. The potential handicap racer, Peace Chance, winner of the coveted Belmont Stakes last year, is among the twenty-six horses trainer Pete Coyne left at Joseph E. Wideners Elmendorf Farm. According to Coyne, Peace Chance is something of a "cinch" to stand training and racing this year. He is well engaged for the season. E. L. Fergusons Vitamin B., as grand a lokoirig horse as is in training or racing today, is at the head of that owner-breeders stable here. Fergusons son Charles is directing the conditioning of the menage. Vitamin B. was trained for the Derby last year but had almost every chance ruined when he ran loose practically all night following the stable fire on Derby eve.
