The latter bettered his position on the inside after reaching the home stretch and was gradually wearing down the winner at the end. BOOCORD was used up racing with VANDA CERULEA and tired when the real test came. VERITAS was unable to challenge when put to a stout drive. PEKIN tired steadily after a half mile. SMEAR worked his way up steadily on the outside and came with excellent courage to finish wearing down the winner at every stride. PRETTY WISE raced prominently from the beginning and fought it out with good courage in the closing drive. LOFTY LADY, shuffled back soon after the start, was carried very wide by the riderless BLACK FALCON until her rider caught hold of the latter when straightened into the home stretch in an endeavor to avoid interference, then closed fast when clear.
