SANTAN placed in near pursuit of the leader in the early running, responded nicely when straightened into the home stretch, finished determinedly and was up in the last seventy yards. DEFLATE began swiftly, stalled off stout contention from SPEED, but could not meet the rush of the winner nearing the end. SPEED had keen speed to force a stiff pace, but tired during the closing eighth. NEDVIVE raced prominently, but could not stay when the real issue came. PACKAGE could not better his position. OGLE outbroke her field and kept prominent in the early racing, went up on the outside of the leaders when bidding for the lead, took command when straightened into the home stretch and drew out during the closing eighth. RIVER ROSE raced DIXIE PRINCESS into defeat to take a slight lead midway of the final turn, but tired after being displaced. PISH TUSH improved his speed steadily and outstayed ARMY GAME in the final drive for third place. ARMY GAME suffered interference at the first turn, settled into her stride and closed a good gap. LUCKY TURN was interfered with by the spill at the first turn and dropped far back, but came again to close a big cap. SUNDROPS was outrun. DIXIE PRINCESS quit. NEWELL, in tight quarters going to the first turn, raced to the outside after reaching the back stretch, worked his way to the leaders gradually, then was placed to punishment in the final drive. MANTADOS had good speed while setting the early pace, sliook off persistent contention from INSOMNIA, but could not withstand the winner under stiff pressure. INSOMNIA forced a steady pace while .following MANTADOS, but tired after reaching the home stretch. FAIR VERBENA was racing gamely at the end after being slow getting into full stride. DEADEYE DICK secured racing room on the inside, but failed to rally when placed to a drive. EGEON could not threaten. FAN had no mishaps. FOURTH RACE 1 MILE AND 70 YARDS. BLOODROOT, full of run, was steered through on the inside of the loaders when midway of the back stretch, opened up a winning lead at the final turn, then held BROWN TWIG safe under mild pressure in the closing test. BROWN TWIG, rated close up, responded strongly when placed to punishment in the last three-sixteenths, but could not threaten the winner seriously after a strong spurt at the final eighth post. COLD SHOULDER saved ground wherever possible early, then came to the outside in the final drive to finish gamely. TUTTICURIO raced well in spots. YOUNG NATIVE began tiring after three-quarters. STAND PAT, placed forwardly in the early running, went to the leaders strongly after leaving the-, back stretch, wore down ONLY ONE and came out nicely when in command. ONLY .ONE raced IDENTIFY into early submission, saved ground after taking the lead, but could not stall off the winner when placed, to a drive. ROUSTABOUT worked his way to a forward position readily, swung to the outside and closed willingly. HOWARD bettered his position on the outside and finished courageously. GOOD GOODS closed, stoutly from a slow beginning. DARK HOPE was unable to enter contention. VICAR was clear from the beginning and had no excuse. EVERGOLD broke slowly. FLAT ROCK closed gamely, but could not gain on the first two. DARKLING was badly shut off at the first turn when sandwiched between FLYING DERE and MISS SNOW, recovered quickly and closed willingly. The latter bettered her position on the outside, responded willingly to punishment, but could not seriously menace the winner. FAIR MOLE came with a belated effort in the last half mile. SIMPLE SINGER was crowded back at the first turn, worked his way into contention and held on well, pulling up slightly lame. OLAMAY could not threaten. REPEAL and KIBITZER tired.
